Good safety planning is not about assuming the worst about every person. It is about making the first meetup easier to enjoy because you have already handled the basics: where you are going, how you are getting there, who knows your plan, and how you can leave if the vibe changes.
Start with a public plan
For a first meetup, choose a public, populated place: coffee, a casual restaurant, a community event, a walk in a busy park, or another setting where other people are nearby. Avoid starting at either person's home, a hotel room, a private car, or an isolated location.
